Outaouais Region at a Glance
Known as a land of clear blue lakes, rivers and immense forests, the Outaouais
region offer endless recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Located
in the southwest of Quebec, these regions boast areas like Gatineau
Park, with its network of hiking and skiing trails, as well as several ski
resorts, outdoor wildlife reserves and golf courses. Recreational opportunities
abound, ranging from snowmobiling in the winter, to whitewater rafting in the
summer, to riding an authentic steam train in autumn to admire the fiery shades
of foliage. There is even a lively community of balloonists who will float a visitor
over the region's forests and rivers. In contrast to the isolated beauty of the
wilderness, the region's cities have a rich culture. In the urban areas, visitors
can explore open air markets, sample fine cuisine, observe the old churches and
museums that depict the region's vast history, or take in one of the numerous
summer festivals.
